Foods To Avoid During Pregnancy
When you are pregnant there are certain foods which you should avoid to ensure that both you and your baby have optimum health.
Before I list off the food to avoid, I would just say smoking, drinking alcohol or taking drugs is known to be harmful to an unborn baby. Rather than looking for a safe level, it is best to stop completely.
1. Avoid any products that contain mercury, fish is the main one, unfortunately although fish can be very good for you, some of the fish today does contain high levels of mercury. Fish like king mackerel, tile fish, swordfish and shark are likely to contain high levels.
2. Avoid eating raw sea food. Also when you eat beef or chicken it is important that it is well cooked. Under cooked meats can have salmonella.
3. Avoid eating too much sweet food. High levels of sugar will will show an increase in your blood sugar count and possibly cause hyperglemia.
4. Avoid eating raw eggs, be aware of what food can contain raw eggs.Raw eggs are in mayonnaise, home made salad dressing some shakes. This is because raw eggs may contain salmonella.
5. Avoid as much processed meat and food as you can, the preservatives are not good for the baby.
6. Avoid Soft cheeses like Brie and Camembert and blue veined cheeses.They could contain Listeria which causes miscarriage, still birth or a severe illness.
7.Avoid too much salt in your foods. Too much salt can cause water retention.
If you stick with plenty of vegetables,grains, fresh fruit and well cooked meat you should have no problems.
Because being pregnant is special, and a very important part of your baby’s development long term, eating the right food is important. If you take the time to know what to eat and what to avoid you will have a lovely stress free pregnancy. Your baby will thank you for your consideration.
